The story is adapted from a Tamil novel and is divided into five parts. The movie is about the escape of the Chola kings once they were in the greatest danger before the fall of the Chola kingdom.
Ponniyin Selvan 1 is fantastic. Mani Ratnam's most popular movie till date. The period tale—beautifully shot, scored, and performed—is a thoroughly entertaining and faithful adaptation from the enormity of the characters and story, not just relying on mere visual scale! It is a brilliantly sequenced film with no dull and loose moments. Karti and Jayam loved Ravi. I think none other than Mani Ratnam could have done justice to the hype that Kalki has given Nandini Devi! Many say,"It's a feast!Tamil fans talking about insecurity? But as per tamil speaking comments they say,"Ha ha ha! Go and check the first ps1 trailer tags and comments. And you will see who is insecure. Comparing without any basic knowledge of history.. Baahubali is a completely fictitious story to pull the audience in. Can be exaggerated but PS1 is the real history of our country which cannot be distorted to a large extent to draw crowds...History lovers will love the movie!”
