Dalit Boy Beaten By Teacher For Drinking Water From His Pot, Dies: Cops
An eight-year-old Dalit boy died on Saturday in the Jalore district of Rajasthan after he was allegedly assaulted by his teacher for touching a pot of drinking water.
According to police, the incident occurred at a private school in Sayla village in Jalore district on July 20. Ahmedabad was the destination for the treatment of the injured child, who had been injured in the eye and ear. Police officials said the boy died yesterday during treatment in the hospital.
The internet has been suspended in the area to prevent the situation from escalating.
Amidst his grief over the incident, chief minister Ashok Gehlot instructed officials to conduct a quick investigation. "Justice will be ensured to the victim's family at the earliest. An assistance amount of ₹ 5 lakh will be given to the family from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund," CM tweeted.
A police team has been sent to Ahmedabad for the victim's post-mortem.
According to the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, the accused teacher has been arrested and charged with murder.
"We filed cases under relevant sections. The teacher has been arrested and interrogated," a cop investigating the case said.
As a result of touching a drinking water pot, the boy was severely beaten, according to the boy's family's complaint.
