Rishi Sunak and Liz Truss final two candidates in the race to be UK's next prime minister

David Davis, a senior Conservative Party MP, has accused Rishi Sunak's campaign team of conspiring behind the scenes as the former finance minister runs for Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.

In a letter to the cabinet secretary, David Davis requested a party investigation into Sunak's campaign. Sunak now has the support of 118 Tory MPs after the fourth round of voting. According to Davis, Sunak's team "relocated" votes to Foreign Secretary Liz Truss in order to ensure her victory in the latest round on July 19. "It's been the dirtiest campaign I've ever seen," Davis said, adding that Truss would be an "easy target" for Sunak and his team in the final round gave her economic plans.

Davis believes Truss received 86 votes in the most recent round of voting, 15 more than in the previous round. Despite this, she is still trailing Trade Minister Penny Mordaunt (92 votes).

Tory HQ has witnessed some fierce competition among their own party MPs, which could be harmful to the party in the future, particularly with general elections only 18 months away.

Sunak and Truss are believed to have backed out of a television debate to protect the party's divided image, causing the show to be canceled.
