Heavy rains in Maharashtra, Telangana and Chhattisgarh washed away several villages on the banks of the Godavari in Andhra Pradesh.
The water at Dowleswaram Barrage near 'Raja Mahendraram' was 1 million cusecs. Last night it increased to 16 lakh cusecs. The water level in Polavaram reached 34.10 meters, forcing the authorities to leave 48 gates. Several villages in Andhra Pradesh's Kalasima district have been flooded as a result of the opening of the Polavaram and Dowleswaram barrage. The flash floods swept away a boat carrying 15 people on the river. Locals rescued 15 people in a hurry, but no casualties were reported.
